Bressia Profundo
Bodegas Bressia
Argentina - Mendoza    - Lujan de Cuyo

Profundo began during the era of “assemblages” in Argentina; wines from various grapes combined in different proportions, achieving a singular, complete wine with great definition.

The Malbec, the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & Syrah come from Lujan de Cuyo vineyards 3,100 feet above sea level. Planted 6,500 plants per hectare.

Intense red color with purple tones. Delicate strawberry, blackberry aromas intertwined with chocolate, tobacco, dulce de leche and vanilla nuances. Harmonious and elegant in the mouth with a long finish.

vinous logo"Bright medium ruby-red. Vinous, high-pitched scents of crushed blackberry, violet and minerals. Dense, fine-grained and suave, with its dark berry and saline mineral flavors energized by an element of herbal lift. There's a wildness here that contributes complexity and personality. This sexy Bordeaux-style blend finishes with firm but suave tannins and excellent length. - Stephen Tanzer"

Combining Malbec with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% each of Merlot and Syrah, it’s plush and intense with classic Agrelo texture framed by sweet oak and underpinned by acidity. 2019-26"

wa91"The oaky, spicy and smoky 2014 Profundo, a red blend of Malbec with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% each Merlot and Syrah, was first produced in 2001, and it has kept a classical profile, perhaps with a little less influence of the élevage (12 months in oak barrels). The fruit is ripe and comes through as very tasty. 15,000 bottles produced. It as bottled in February 2017. - Luis Gutiérrez"

vinous logo"(14.5% alcohol; aged for 12 months in French oak): Healthy medium red. Pungent aromas of black raspberry, cassis, redcurrant, mocha and licorice, with some distinct Cabernet leafiness. Fine-grained, suave wine with noteworthy intensity and well-judged extraction. Some leafy and peppery notes add to the wine's complexity without overshadowing its dark fruit flavors. Finishes with slightly dusty, herbal tannins, notes of licorice and herbs and very good rising length. This nicely sappy 2014 is still youthfully wound up and needs another year or two in bottle. It should age well. - Stephen Tanzer"

This blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah feels sinewy and snappy, with crunchy raw acidity. Blackberry and wood-spice flavors finish with notes of burnt toast made brighter by lasting acidity. Drink through 2035. - Michael SCHACHNER"

vinous logo"Bright ruby-red. Blackberry and mocha aromas are given punch by herbs and spicy oak. Supple, moderately sweet, concentrated wine with lovely texture and depth to its berry, plum, tobacco and coffee flavors. A mouthfilling, sappy blend with lovely inner-mouth violet lift and substantial but smooth tannins for support. Not at all outsized but suave and sexy now, if in dry, savory style. This sophisticated wine finishes with good subtle persistence.- Stephen Tanzer"

wa90"The ripe 2012 Profundo is a blend of 50% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% each Merlot and Syrah from Agrelo, in Luján de Cuyo, aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. Ripe, with dark plums, sweet spices, something earthy and also perfumed, the nose is quite elegant. This is a classical blend showing good balance and a certain elegance within its powerful style. - Luis Gutiérrez"

vinous logo 250"(15% alcohol): Bright medium ruby. Aromas of cassis, black cherry, licorice and spicy oak are lifted by leafy and peppery accents. Large-scaled, broad and sweet, showing an obvious oak component but plenty of rich dark berry flavor and volume. Piquant notes of herbs and pepper add energy and interest. This generous, lightly herbal wine finishes with serious dusty tannins and very good length. Should evolve gracefully. - Stephen Tanzer"

tim atkin logo 250"The top wine at Bressia (apart from the tiny release of Ultima Hoja) is a blend of Malbec with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% each of Merlot and Syrah. Suitably dense and profound, it's a complex, age-worthy wine with black fruits, sweet oak and a compact core of tannins. Give the wine time in bottle. Drink: 2017-23"

The palate weighs in on the jammy, overripe side, with almost no acidic cut. Soupy, ultraripe flavors of crème de cassis, carob and prune finish raisiny. Drink this syrupy wine through 2017. — M.S."

Wine Advocate 92 Pts.A new estate for me, Bodega Bressia-s proprietor, Walter Bressia, has been in the Argentine wine trade for nearly three decades. .......... I tasted two other Bressia wines that were priced too high for this report, the 2009 Profundo (50% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% each Merlot and Syrah); ($40.00; 92 points) and the prodigious 2009 Conjuro (50% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot); ($120.00; 96 points).

Wine Advocate 92 PtsThe 2008 Bressia Profundo is initially muted on the nose, demanding coaxing from the glass. It eventually offers blackberry, briary, crushed stone and a touch of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins. There is decent structure here, the wine remaining poised and focused with firm backbone from start to finish. Tightly coiled now, give this wine three years in bottle to see it strut its stuff. Drink 2015-2023. - NM

tanzer iwc 90 pts(50% malbec, 30% cabernet sauvignon and 10% each merlot and syrah): Slightly reduced aromas of blackberry, licorice, smoked meat and violet. Sweet, musky and seamless if still a bit youthfully reduced, with nicely integrated acidity giving shape to the middle palate. Finishes broad and suave, with sophisticated tannins, a lightly saline quality and very good length. This needs a couple years of patience.
