Terra Barossa Shiraz
Thorn Clarke
Australia - South Australia - Barossa Valley

The Terra Barrosa range is named in honor of the rich soils in the region which are a major factor in the Barossa’s reputation as one of the great wine regions of the world.

Terra Barossa Shiraz displays vibrant black fruit lift with rich winter spice. Distinct flavours of satsuma plum and black cherry are complemented by soft tannins. A wine with great length and balance.

Specifications

Varietal(s)
100% Shiraz
Vinification
The grapes are crushed and de-stemmed into fermenters. Yeast is added immediately once in fermenter and the ferments are pumped over twice daily to maximise colour, tannin and flavour extraction. Cooling is used to ensure ferment temperatures remain in the 22-25 degree Celsius range which will allow the fruit to display maximum fruit expression. Pressing then occurs approximately seven days after crushing and the wine is then put into French and American oak for maturation for up to 12 months.

james suckling hq logo plain"This is a gently spicy shiraz with aromas of red berries and plums, gentle spice and a little perfume and spiced pastry, too. The palate has a supple and fleshy feel with bright and ripe red to dark-berry flavors. Soft, plump tannins. Drink now. Screw cap."

"A toasty, dark-chocolate oak note plays a prominent role in this Barossa Shiraz. But the more varietal cassis and damson-plum fruit are out in full force too, backed by mint, anise and other sweet spices. The plump fruit is cinched by savory, chalky tannins on the palate, while the oak spice hangs around on the finish. Rich but fairly well structured, this could age a few years in bottle or be drunk now with a charred piece of barbecued meat or veg. - CHRISTINA PICKARD"

"This has lots of the feel-good factors of classic Barossa Shiraz: plush, ripe plum and cherry fruit, licorice, peppery spice and a hint of chocolate. The full-figured palate is a little syrupy and grainy-textured, with savory spiced tannins and a little heat from the alcohol. A mouthfilling wine for big red lovers. - CHRISTINA PICKARD"

halliday logo"If you think the flavours and texture of this wine more akin to the Eden Valley than the Barossa Valley, you're probably right - three of the four estate vineyards are in the Eden Valley, on in the Barossa Valley. The scented pepper, spice and black cherry of the wine provide a lightness of foot to the medium-bodied palate, balance following the same line. - James Halliday"

wplogo"Classic Barossa shiraz, this wine is plush and jammy with ripe flavors of blackberries and blueberries. There’s a light floral note that gives the wine extra lift. If you can refrain from drinking it all at once, it’s even better the next day. ABV: 14.5 percent. - David McIntyre"

Sweet and broad in the mouth; a peppery note adds spicy lift and cut to sweet cassis and blackberry flavors. Supple tannins come in late, adding shape to a long, dark-fruit-dominated finish. - Josh Raynolds"

Plush, broad and appealingly sweet, offering pliant black and blue fruit flavors and a spicy nuance that builds with aeration. The clinging, darkfruit-dominated finish shows gentle tannic grip and very good persistence. - Josh Raynolds"

tanzer iwc 88 pts"Bright purple. Smoky cherry and blackcurrant aromas are sharpened and lifted by a peppery quality and a hint of candied flowers. Supple and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering sweet black and blue fruit flavors and a touch of olive that becomes stronger with air. Finishes with echoing blue fruit and olive notes, good length and just a whisper of tannins."

wa300"This is one of my go-to wineries for top values from the Barossa Valley in Australia. The Thorn family has been growing grapes since the 1870s, and the quality of these wines is impressive. Moreover, the prices are almost ridiculously low, making these wines frequent entries in The Wine Advocate. All of the following wines are produced from 100% Barossa Valley fruit from what they call the Kabininge Vineyard. The 2012 Terra Barossa Shiraz (aged 12 months in American oak) exhibits lots of toasty oak, sweet blackberry fruit, licorice, tar and a subtle hint of herbs in the background. Medium-bodied, soft, and round, it can be drunk over the next several years. - Robert Parker"
