Alain Jaume Gigondas Terrasses de Montmirail
Alain Jaume ( Grand Veneur )
France - Rhone Valley - Gigondas AOC

Located in and around the famous area called “Dentelles de Montmirail”, the landscape typicity is made by a rocky bar (between 100 and 600 meters high). Soils are made of clay and sand with limestone. The “Dentelles” appeared thanks to the pressure between the Pyrenees and Alps montains. This is a land of predilection to produce both powerful and fresh wines.
Nights are cooler and the grapes ripeness usually comes in late september.

Deep red garnet color. Aromas typical for Grenache with ripe black fruit, blackberry. A powerful Gigondas, racy but harmonious and well balanced. The finish is long on spices touches (pepper) and minerals (crushed rocks, graphite). Best enjoyed after 1-8 years. Best to decant if served young.

jeb dunnuck logo 250"Based on 65% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2017 Gigondas Terrasses De Montmirail is an impressive wine from the Jaume family and has classic ripe cherry and black raspberry fruit as well as notes of white flowers, graphite, and garrigue. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, with sweet tannins, drink it over the coming decade."

wine enthusiast 94 pts"Initial notes of smoke and char fade with aeration revealing layers of decadent black plum and cherry flavors here. This is an intoxicatingly fruity, luscious wine that's balanced pertly by fresh acidity and a crisp mineral undertone. Nuanced by spice and garrigue, it's drinking beautifully already but should improve well through 2030."

wa93"The 2016 Gigondas Terrasses de Montmirail shows why everyone is excited about the 2016s in the Southern Rhône. A full-bodied, rich and velvety wine, it comes close to being chocolaty and fudge-like without closing that border, instead delivering dark plum and cherry fruit, dusty, earthy notes and savory spice. It should drink well for a decade or more. - Joe Czerwinski"

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The 2016 Gigondas Terrasses de Montmirail from the Jaume family is 65% Grenache and the balance Mourvèdre and Syrah, aged mostly in tank with a small part in smaller barrels. Its deep ruby color is followed by a pretty, elegant, seamless wine that has great notes of red fruits, white flowers, spices, and a limestone-like minerality. Silky and polished, it shines for its elegance and purity."

jeb dunnuck logo 250"The 2016 Gigondas Terrasse de Montmirail shows the firm, tannic edge of the 2015, yet packs more fruit, depth, and richness. Black fruits, crushed rocks, violets and sappy herbs all emerge from this classic, age-worthy Gigondas that’s going to need 3-4 years of bottle age."

Coming from higher elevation sites and mostly limestone soils, its vibrant purple color is followed by beautiful spice, black raspberry, kirsch and dried flower-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, balanced and polished, with plenty of fruit yet also solid underlying ripe tannic structure, buy a case and enjoy bottles over the coming 7-8 years. - Jeb Dunnuck"

vinous logo 250"Deep ruby. Ripe cherry and boysenberry scents are sharpened by suggestions of cracked pepper and smoky minerals. Plush and appealingly sweet, offering fleshy red and blue fruit flavors and a touch of candied flowers. The peppery note comes back slowly on the long, sappy finish, which is framed by talc-y tannins that fold nicely into the juicy fruit. - Josh Raynolds"

wa90"While Gigondas struggled in 2014, the 2013s were surprisingly successful. The 2013 Gigondas Terrasses de Montmirail is nicely concentrated and structured, with lots of classic graphite, smoked earth, mineral and black fruit characteristics on both the nose and palate. Made from 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre, it has excellent purity of fruit, good acidity and fine tannin, all of which should keep it drinking nicely through 2024. - Jeb Dunnuck"

wine spectator 90 pts"Very solid, exhibiting dark, mouthfilling flavors of plum sauce, fresh fig and blackberry compote, inlaid with dried anise notes and brambly grip. Lots of black tea and tobacco details fuel the finish. Modest cellaring should let this round into form. Best from 2017 through 2024. 1,200 cases made."

Supple dark berry liqueur and lavender pastille flavors are lifted and sharpened by a peppery nuance and a hint of smoky minerals. Puts on weight with air and closes on an appealingly sweet note, displaying strong persistence and smooth, even tannins. - Josh Raynolds"

Showing classic Gigondas spice, dried garrigue, saddle leather and blackberry and raspberry fruit, this medium to full-bodied Gigondas is loaded with Provencal character.
